AS one of the region's most popular tourist attractions the Light Railway Museum in Albion Park has much to offer.

Their latest restoration work, funded by the Oak Flats Community Bank, saw the museum bring back to life a signal box, bought by the museum a number of years ago from Otford railway station, north of Wollongong.

When new technology phased out the old signal boxes most were demolished. The Otford signal box, housed at the Light Railway Museum, is one of only about three rescued according to Light Railway Museum Treasurer Brad Johns.

Mr Johns described it as a "signalling museum", with all of the original fittings restored.

"It is great that it can be preserved for future generations to see."

He said the work would not have been possible had it not been for the generous donation by Bendigo Bank.

Chairman of the Oak Flats Community Bank said it is part of the constitution of the bank to give a portion of its profits back to the community, who the bank relies on for its success.

"We support those who support us," he said.

The museum hosts a "Steaming Day" on the second Sunday of each month where you can take the family and look around. You can ride on the steam trains or picnic at the barbecue facilities onsite.

The Light Railway Museum Society, completely run by the hard work of volunteers, has been located in Tongarra Road Albion Park since 1974.

Their collection is always expanding so check it out for yourself.

It addition to Steaming Days the museum is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for you to take a look
