Where to stop?

IN response to the Lake Times story last week on the stop sign at the end of Windang Street in Albion Park Rail one local resident is commending Shellharbour Council for moving the sign from it's previous location on Wooroo Street to it's current position on Windang Street.
While residents of Windang Street are displeased with the move Karen McGregor of Oak Flats says it has proved a blessing for the many people who regularly use Wooroo Street to get back onto the Highway.
Ms McGregor said traffic used to become chaotic across the stretch of road on Wooroo Street, which saw a stop sign, railway crossing and traffic lights all in the space of a few hundred metres.
She said the removal of the stop sign from Wooroo Street has helped alleviate the delays and confusion caused to many motorists.
She said while she does sympathise with residents on Windang Street she believes more people benefit out of the street sign's current position than its previous set up.
"The majority has to rule in this case," she said.
She said the stop-free route through Industrial Road and Wooroo Street encourages motorists to use these roads, diverting traffic off the highway.
Ms McGregor also said she is concerned that if the stop sign is reverted back to its original position at the end of the six month trial period motorists may become confused with the potential for an accident increased.
Shellharbour Mayor David Hamilton agreed a number of residents have thanked Shellharbour Council for the move. Ms McGregor is not alone on her assertion the sign should stay where it is at the end of Windang Street, not reverted back to Wooroo Street.
