ITS that time of year to show your support and buy a bandanna. National Bandanna Day is coming up on Friday October 27.
It is the major fundraising event of CanTeen, a national peer support network that focuses of the psycho-social needs of young people living with cancer.
It provides a place where young people can get together, share experiences and simply be young people, away from the adult dominated world of cancer wards.
National Bandanna Day has been one of Australias most successful charity days since its inception in 1994 and in its 21st year CanTeen hopes to break through the one million bandannas sold mark and raise more than $4 million for young people living with cancer.
To celebrate its 21st birthday they have released two new bandannas, called Peace and Tattoo, designed by Industrie Clothing as well as a range of very cool and unique 21st birthday button badges.
Manager of CanTeens Act and Southern NSW division Michelle Blohm said last years day was great but this year, in their 21st birthday year, it looks like it will be even bigger.
With the two new bandannas and the 21st birthday badges I think that National Bandanna Day this year is really going to capture the imagination of people in the local area, she said.
The ACT and Southern Division of CanTeen has an active and expanding membership base comprising of young people aged 12-24 across three categories, patients, siblings and offspring.
The division runs camps and recreation days for local young people who have experienced a cancer diagnosis, as well as providing opportunities for them to attend national camps and programs throughout the year.
Patient Member of CanTeen and the ACT representative on CanTeens National Board of Directors Liam Hunt said National Bandanna Day is heaps of fun but its also a great way to promote the work that CanTeen does at a local level throughout the ACT and southern NSW.
Bandannas, badges and pens are available from Woolworths, NewsLink and Industrie stores as well as participating schools and local businesses now.
Bandanna can also be bought from CanTeens army of volunteers who will be out on National Bandanna Day, Friday October 27.
