Warilla Bowls take new Competition

WARILLA Bowls and Recreation Club are the inaugural NSW winners of the Australian Super Club Challenge.
The perennial lawn bowls heavyweights won the first super club challenge contested in NSW after defeating Maitland City in the final at The Hills District Bowling Club on Sunday.
The Super Club Championship, which is contested across Australia, involves each club fielding a team of seven " a singles competitor, pairs duo and fours side.
Clubs that win two of three matches in a rubber are declared the winners.
Warilla won the Men's Gold Division with a comprehensive 2-1 win over Maitland City.
The fours combination of Sam Glen, John Ritchie, Paul Woods and ex-NSW representative Geoff McGillivray laid the platform with a 20-6 win.
Warilla Bowls Club secretary Rocky Stone sealed the title when he defeated Maitland City's Eric Ryan 25-17.
Maitland saved face with a win in the pairs, with Wayne Lambourne and Australian representative Bill Cornehls defeating Warilla duo Wayne Crane and South African international Eric Johannes 18-11.
It was a double celebration for Warilla, as the ladies team won the Silver Division of the ladies super club challenge.
Warilla defeated Hunter-based Beresford in the final.
Norma Taylor played singles, while Narelle Mushett and Trish Orgal teamed in the pairs.
Corie Rutton, Heather Skinner, Heather Smith and Vicky Turner combined in the fours.
The national finals will be played in Queensland on Sunday, September 16.
