LAST Saturday saw 81 crews contest Rd 1 of the Warilla Bowls South Coast Surf Boat Premiership at a cold Woonona beach.

Competition in the seven divisions was close with a number of spectacular exits and a lot of damaged gear.

In the open, Corrimal Rejects led after the preliminary rounds but in the final, the Austinmer Blue crew were victorious from Bulli Gold and Moruya Vikings.

The womens division was closely fought with Bateman Bay Sirens winning a close final from Moruya Vikings and Batemans Bay Blowfish.

Eighteen crews started in the reserves with Austinmer Blue winning from Bulli Gold and Corrimal Puppy Lovers.

In the newly created U23 division, 12 crews started with last years champion U21 Austinmer Blue in top form taking out the final from the much improved Bulli Gold and Helensburgh Stanwell Park.

The other new U23 womens race saw Helensburgh Stanwell Park first from Austinmer White.

In the U19s, Shellharbour were the leading point scorer but in the final, Broulee BBs won from Corrimal and Shellharbour.

In the final division, eight veteran crews competed and resulted in Mollymook Assassins successful from Batemans Bay Mix Masters and Mollymook Greys.

The second of four rounds will be held at Batemans Bay on Saturday November 11, with defending champions Austinmer leading the overall pointscore with 158, just in front of Bulli on 157 and Batemans Bay 107.
