ROB and Gayle Maddens 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Drag Race Coupe has just undergone a total and major revamp in preparation for stepping from Group 3 to the Group 2 eliminator class next year.
Work carried out on the car includes a new 698 cubic inch (11.4litre), all aluminium Chevrolet motor, built by Rob himself, and new beefed up transmission capable of handling 2500 horsepower.
The motor has a compression ratio of 15.0:1 and required a special imported race fuel with a 166 octane rating at a cost of $8 per litre.
The motor uses two monstrous four-barrel carburettors to make around 1200hp in naturally aspirate mode. When the two OZNOS Nitrous kits are turned on, the horsepower boosts to around 1800.
Rob engineered the kits at his Ozrace workshop in Albion Park and is currently working on a third kit which he says will probably boost the power a bit more.
Rob is not giving anything away in terms of ETs (elapsed times) or terminal speeds for the new car, but if the 7.64 second ET and 176mph (285kmh) terminal speed of the previous 555 horsepower car are anything to go by, this little baby will be quick - very quick.
Local support for the Ozrace Camaro comes from Ozrace, Oznos, B&L Supplies, South Coast Powdercoating,LBJ Tours and Steves Speed Shop, with out of town support from Smithfield diesel, Speedlow, Romac, BMS Performance Racing Transmissions and Accelerator Torque Converters.
Rob and Gayle also acknowledge the help from their crew, Michelle Madden, Kevin Reith and Luke Oppy.
This drag car will be on display next Saturday night, November 18 at Steves Speed Shop from 5pm.
So come on all you petrol heads... join in the BBQ, drinks, juke box and prizes at Steves Cruise Night this Saturday from 5pm till midnight at 1/28 Shaban Street, Albion Park Rail and check out the awesome new Ozrace Camaro.
