WOLLONGONG Performance Racing (WPR Racing) has announced another step in its rapid expansion with the purchase of a V8 Supercar.
The step up to the V8 Supercar (V8SC) Fujitsu Series for the 2007 Championship will be a giant leap for the newly established team and driver Damien White realises the enormity of the challenge.
He said, After 6 years in V8 Utes which includes 2 Championships I am ecstatic that we can announce our plans to make the giant leap to the ranks of V8 Supercar.
Even with my limited experience in Supercars by doing the Bathurst 1000 on 3 occasions I know it will be a massive challenge for us all.
But why stand still in a comfort zone?
WPR have purchased a Holden from the well established Paul Morris Motorsport (PMM) team on the Gold Coast and will enjoy ongoing technical assistance which, in such a technically advanced sport, will be critical to their success.
WPR Team Manager Gary Carson explains, Yes its a very different style of racing to the utes, but we wouldnt have made the decision to take the step if we didnt believe we could do it, and with the agreement by PMM to provide ongoing assistance we can approach it with great confidence.
The much anticipated announcement comes just days after Whites first drive in the Supercar which took place at Queensland Raceway on Monday where he impressed everybody with his speed.
To be within a second of Paul Morris time was a great start, said Gary.
Paul even made the comment that he was impressed by Damiens ability to adapt to a new car so quickly.
After his first laps Damien was understandably excited.
Nothing beats that!!
We have been working on this deal for the last few months so for it to finally have happened is awesome.
The guys at PMM have been great and we all look forward to working with them in the upcoming season.
Its been a busy year for Wollongong Performance Racing which has experienced unexpected but pleasing growth. Gary concludes, WPR has expanded rapidly this year. We have opened our new facility at Unanderra and grown from one Ute to three. With the arrival of our first Supercar Im looking forward to the people of Wollongong getting behind it and the Utes next year. The Gong has an NRL team, an NBL team and now a V8 Supercar Team. Go Wollongong. Go WPR.
