Ty Cherry flattens Warilla

A devastating five wicket bowling spell from Oak Flats Rats Ty Cherry has allowed his side to take a stranglehold on their vital match against premiers Warilla Sports at Oakleigh Park on Saturday. In other games youngster Nathan Tyrell’s century put competition leaders Lake Illawarra control against Albion Park, an unbeaten century from wicket-keeper Tim Davies gave Kiama a huge boost against Shellharbour City, while Jamberoo and The Rail are locked in a tight battle at Croom Rd. Warilla won the toss and batted against Oak Flats, but soon found their innings in tatters and they were bundled out for just 55, with Cherry taking 5-18 off six overs, while up-and-coming paceman David Insley cleaning up the tail with 3-10. In reply, the Rats were also in deep trouble art 4-15, but opener Rick Merz (25) and Darren O’Connell steadied the ship to push them to a lead, before O’Connell and Ty Cherry (38 not out) added an unbeaten 80 for the eighth wicket, with O’Connell batting superbly to finish 91 not out and will look for his second century of the season next Saturday as Oak Flats finished at seven for 174. Nathan Tyrell scored his inaugural first grade century to put Lake Illawarra in charge against Albion Park. The Lakers were struggling at 6-114 after Craig Action batted well at the top of the order with an aggressive 63 (with ten fours and a six), before allrounder Mark Ulcigrai joined Tyrell and they plundered a partnership of 140 before Ulcigrai was out for 75 (12 fours and a six) and a declaration came when Tyrell was out for a classy 103, which featured ten fours. Troy Burns bowled superbly for the Park to take 5-65 off 19 overs. The Park are in big trouble at stumps to be teetering at three for 30, with Ulcigrai taking 2-8. Kiama Cavaliers look like keeping Gerringong’s shaky semi-final hopes alive after a stunning century by wicket-keeper batsman Tim Davies against Shellharbour City at Kiama. Kiama were in big trouble at 6-112, but Davies had good support from Dan Reilly (20) and Mick Norris (29 not out) to allow his side to close their innings at 7-242, with Davies hitting ten fours in his unbeaten 104. The Scorpions, needing to win to make the most of Gerringong’s bye, crumbled to 3-30 at stumps, with Ben King-Gee the surprise destroyer with 2-8. The Rail and Jamberoo are locked in an interesting battle for first innings points at Croom Road. Jamberoo won the toss and batted and thanks to a superb innings of 80 from opener Chris Oborn, managed to tally a competitive 193. He his seven fours and two sixes and received good support from several team-mates who added handy runs. In form batsman Col Yeaman turned bowling destroyer to take 5-48 off 13 overs, while wicket-keeper Adrian Bartlett picked up 2-8. In reply, The Rail are closing in on the total at 6-140 after innings of 46 from Trevor Lillico and Yeaman, 30, and with the classy Brynley Richards available next week, will be hoping to get the points. Pat Stapleton was the Bulls stand-out performer with the ball to take 4-39.
