Contender for the seat of Shellharbour, Lylea McMahon has launched her campaign.

The Hon. Michael Costa did the honours.

Ms McMahon said she was honoured to have the Treasurer launch her campaign.

"I know he has a busy schedule, particularly in the lead up to the State Election," she said.

I am overwhelmed by the support I have received to date as I have been out doorknocking the electorate and speaking to other local residents.

Many of the issues that residents have raised with me are the same concerns that I have as a local.

My top priorities are:

Improving our schools. Better facilities, more teachers and computers. Improved access to vocational education. A greater focus on community values and respect.

Continued Investment in Infrastructure and Job Creation. Strong voice for the Electorate of Shellharbour so that it continues to get its fair share of the Iemma Governments record $10 billion dollars of infrastructure spending.

Better local hospitals. Improving hospital services at Shellharbour and Wollongong, fighting for more Doctors and Nurses. Including improving access to Mental Health Services.

Protecting our quality of life. Supporting sustainable development and ensuring new infrastructure is built to meet community needs.

Supporting our police. More police on the beat. Supporting tough minimum sentences.

Building better local roads. Extra funding for local roads and Princes Highway.
