STINGRAYS Junior Rugby League Club is celebrating after winning the repechage section of the Corrimal Tommy Martin under 7s knockout on Sunday.
The boys defeated Illawarra rivals Dapto in the decider after three earlier games.
Stingrays opened their account with a loss against Collegians, before knocking off the hosts, Wests and Dapto to seal victory.
The Stingrays were one of more than 30 clubs, including outfits from Sydney, the Illawarra and South Coast to field sides in the knockout.
"There were more than 30 clubs there at the start of the day but we were one of only four left at the end," Stingrays under 7s coach Stefan Wood said.
"The club did well at the event in 2006, so it was good to back that up this year.
"It was good to go up there and have a few wins " the boys tried really hard on the day.
"They have come along really well in the past season.
"Because they're only under 7s this was their first chance to play in competitive matches and they handled themselves really well."
Wood was impressed by the way the youngsters handled themselves in the finals, when coaches were not allowed on the field with the team.
"The boys organised themselves really well " they were pretty stoked at the end of the match when they received trophies because that's something that don't usually get," he said.
The team that won the trophy was Tyson Wood, Jayden Harris, Reece Owen, Jack Lees, Kieran Nikitaris, Tom Bell, Oliver Williams, Cameron Caruso and James Hobson. Stefan Wood was coach and Paul Harris manager.
