Shellharbour City Deputy Mayor Cr Michelle Greig joins other guests in co-signing the Year 10 Beacon Foundation pledge at Lake Illawarra High School
ONE HUNDRED and forty eight Year 10 students at Lake Illawarra High School took a pledge on May 17 to involve themselves in further education, training or employment upon leaving school as part of the Shellharbour City Beacon Foundation School/Industry Partnership Will and a Way Program.
The signing of the charter by the entire Year 10 student body took place in front of Local, State and Federal Members, members of Shellharbour City Council, representatives of over 30 companies participating in the program and parents.
Principal of Lake Illawarra High School Thomas Sleigh said that this was the first year the school had been involved in the program.
Our school takes serious responsibility in ensuring the successful transition by students into the workforce or further education, said Mr. Sleigh.
The Beacon Foundation develops partnerships with businesses to create opportunities to secure a furute for our students.
As a sign of the communitys commitment back to the students, industry, government and council guests at the ceremony co-signed the charter board to the strains of student Pamela Aurino performing Delta Goodrems Be Strong.
