Do you think the Illawarra business community should have been more supportive of the Albion Park QantasLink service, which has just shut down?

Jodie Lawer claims she has a spring in her step when she goes to work!

Ms Lawer is not talking about her usual day job, but the hours she spends fundraising for Starlight Day, the Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia charity fundraising event.

“You’ve sort of got a spring in your step when you’re doing it, because you know it is worthwhile,” she said.

“You go to work and work for eight hours and get paid, and here you work for four hours and don’t get paid, but it’s a lot more rewarding.

“Knowing that you’re giving sick kids hope, it’s a worthwhile thing to do.”

The Foundation is in urgent need of local volunteers to sell merchandise. They will be fundraising at Westfield Warrawong from May 1 to 3 as part of Starlight Day.

Ms Lawer said volunteers only needed to donate four hours of their time, or one shift, to the event.

The search for volunteers at Warrawong is part of a nationwide appeal for 4000 volunteers for Starlight Day, which this year has a goal to raise a record-breaking $2 million.

“Living with a serious illness causes enormous strain in the lives of children and their families,” Starlight CEO Jill Weekes said.

“Starlight delivers programs to seriously ill children to restore the happiness and laughter that the illness takes away.”
