Therese Dimech enjoys the thrill of competing in front of big crowds and hopes to use her natural beauty and gruelling exercise routine to take her a long way in sports modelling competitions.
THE next local international success story could well be coming out of Fitness Express Shellharbour.
21-year-old Therese Dimech is well on her way to the top of Sports Model competitions after winning the Australasian Natural Bodybuilding Sports Model contest held at Shellharbour Workers club recently.
Therese blew the judges away with her physique, grace and elegance against an extremely tough line up.
The preparation involves training six days a week with a mix of cardio and weights. She said.
It was an awesome feeling to win, my boyfriend and the crew from the gym were all there which added to the experience.
The South Coast event was only her third and since her fourth placing in her debut event, in Sydney October last year, and a second placing earlier this year at the Sydney Championships, Therese looks set for big things according to her personal trainer Pauline Knox.
Therese took up the challenge a year ago and trained extremely hard.
For this last event Therese reduced her body fat by ten per cent and her determination to win was mind blowing said Pauline.
I am convinced she can go all the way and win the national title later this year and progress to the international level. She added.
Fitness Express owner and manager, George Taousanis , a former competitive natural bodybuilder with over 20 years experience in the industry, puts the achievement in perspective.
It really is outstanding. he said
It usually takes at least five years to get to Thereses current level. I believe she has the commitment to hard work, the motivation and inspiration around her to keep going.
The pain and long hours in the gym are all worth it to Dimech who enjoys the thrill of competing.
It is quite scary at first as there were around 300 people in the crowd, but the music and cheering make it pretty exciting she added.
Therese also attributes her success to trainer Pauline and the tight knit crew at fitness express, which is a home away from home for many members, something that George and his staff remain committed to.
