MORE than 130 surfers converged on Shellharbour City beaches for the running of the 2007 Illawarra Titles recently. This year's event was hosted by Southbridge Boardriders.

The competition was run over two days with the preliminary rounds surfed on small but contestable waves at George Street.

Day two saw a welcome move to Cowries, where a clean 1.5 metre, south-east swell provided a blank canvas for some standout performances in all four divisions.

As a result, Southbridge's Josh Szele, Troy Langendon, Mick Mathesius, Lee Carey, Ray Mahoney and Chris Homer all gained selection in the team that will be representing the Illawarra at the State Titles, to be held at Port Macquarie and Cronulla in the coming months.

The competition also marked the swansong for Southbridge Boardrider's long time president Steve Wunderlich who, after almost two decades at the helm, is off to pursue new career interests and a change of life-style in Bali .

Thank you Steve for all your efforts and Good Luck for the future.

Colin Gow, who has previously spent many years competing and judging internationally, is taking over from Steve.

Col is very keen on junior development and is eager to pass on his vast knowledge and experience to the younger generation of local surfers.

Southbridge Boardriders will be holding their next pointscore on Sunday April 22, at George Street from 7:30a.m. Sundays are more family-friendly.

New members both young and old are always welcome.
