It will come as no surprise to many that the Illawarra's most successful Martial Arts facility, the South Coast Taekwondo Centre (SCTC) again brought home a volley of medals from the recent National Championships held in Adelaide.
It was an excellent tournament with SCTC producing two National Champions (Gold medals), three Silver Medallists, three Bronze medallists and two fighters finishing fourth.
This being a haul of eight medals from 10 fighters competing.
Notable highlights were the return to fighting of Jay Gutierrez after a five year break from Taekwondo after only six months back in training. New recruit, Mitchell Brisbane won gold after only starting Taekwondo seven months ago while Warilla youngster Sheridan Brown, competing in her first National Championship also brought home gold.
Multiple Australian team representative, Kylie Jackson has won Nationals in 2005, 2006 and after competing in a different weight division brought home silver for 2007.
Ben Nolan recorded his personal best results while State Champion Brade Walder brought home bronze to add to his medal collection. Sisters Courtney and Caitlin each brought home silver medals making not only her parents proud. while Jake Blatch had no easy effort to win his Bronze medal.
He fought two Australian team members and defeated the first who was a head taller.
Although Elicia Tjong did not get the win, she performed well .
"I know the Illawarra is as proud as I of the fine fighters we have at SCTC and the representations these fighters make on behalf of the Region," SCTC Master Robert Cooley said.
