THE Tom Burton Memorial Snooker competition has been held and won for another year at Corrimal.

The competition is in memory of a keen northern suburbs snooker player who tragically drowned on the South Coast.

Toms twin brother Bob describes him as a very passionate snooker player who played competition for many years before his tragic drowning off Sussex inlet.

Bob sees the tournament as a fitting way to remember him and celebrate his life.

Toms widow Josie Burton congratulated this years tournament winner Sailusi Taukiaho from Canberra and presented him with the winners trophy and cheque.

Last years tournament was especially memorable for the Burton family with Toms son Geoffrey Burton taking out the competition. Other past winners have been Steve Hill from Corrimal in 2004, Darren Large from Woonona in 2003, Chris Hayes from Wollongong in 2002 and Vili Naupoto from Canberra in 2001.

On behalf of the Burton family, Bob Burton thanked Jamie Bleakley for organising the event over the past 6 years, the Corrimal RSL Club for their continued support and the Woonona Bowling Club, which sponsored the competition for the first four years.

The Tournament has met with outstanding success with approximately 30 players entering the competition each year. Those wishing to enter the tournament should contact Jamie Bleakley of Bellambi or Steve Hill at the Corrimal RSL Club on 4284 4055 early in September each year.
