JUNIOR cricket got off to a cool start in Round 2 of the South Coast and Illawarra Junior Cricket Competitions.

On a day more suited to penguins, fielding sides tried in vain to keep their hands warm for hot chances.

As a result, batsmen warmed to the task with sizzling performances.

In U14 and U16 competitions, 2 day games are in progress with outstanding batting in the 16s from Kiamas Dan Jones (80), Ben Czyrkowski (27)and Brad Church (29).

In the 14s, Kiamas Matt Gladman and Claeg Wilson both scored 44 with Storm Collins 33no while Shellharbour Citys Jay Turk (35) and Jordan Nolan (21) were solid.

In the U12s, Gerringong openers Declin Wall (30no) and Noah Keys-Asgill(21no)batted through the run chase for a win. Kiamas Carlin Simon hit 31no, Tom Dowd (26) and Jake Ashley (20no) set up a good win for Kiama.

Shellharbour Whites James Baldacchino(27) was in fine touch.

In U10s Shell Citys Brody Hawkins hit (30no), with Rails Keiran Gilly (30no) and Hayden Church (24).

Excellent bowling saw Mel LeGalliene take 4-14 for Jamberoo in the 16s.

In the 14s Dan Josevski took 3-8 for Shell City and in the under 12s Barry Smith (Shell Silver) rivalled Pidgeon McGrath with figures of 4-3.

In the U10s, batsmen will have to look out for Phil Kozarevski from Shell Blue who snared 3-1 and Shell Silvers Mark Robertson 3-5.
