LOCAL swim star Megan Newell is returning home with 3 Golds and 1 Bronze after competing at the 8th National Special Olympics held between the 1-8 October on the Gold Coast, Megans medal haul a reward for excellence in the S-14, Intellectually Disabled category.
Megan snared Gold in the 100m Breaststroke, 200 IM, and the 4x50m relay, and a Bronze in the 200m Freestyle, all times a whisker shy of her Personal Best.
Megans results are reward for her hours of dedication, which include 6-8 training sessions each week, all whilst holding down a permanent job and undertaking a TAFE Course in Hospitality.
However, unfortunately Megans continued achievement in the pool is becoming increasingly challenging due to a lack of financial support. As a local resident for 21 of her 22 years, Megan has been nominated on nine occasions for Shellharbour Sports Star of the Year and achieved outstanding results at National and International Events over the past 10 years.
Any businesses wishing to support Megan in her pursuit of continued excellence in the pool can contact Megans Dad, Rob on 42972589.
Megans next major event will be the Telstra Nationals in Brisbane from the 3-10 December.
