WARILLA High Schools Open Girls Rugby Union team have brought home the bacon for the second year running by winning the NSW Combined High Schools Richard Shaw Shield for 2006.

The team took on all comers from all over the state, including sports high schools and private schools, to defend their 2005 State title.

Warilla High School Principal John Hamby described the girls rugby team as being arguably the best sporting team to come out of the school.

I am unaware of a local comprehensive school who has achieved what these girls have achieved, Mr Hamby said.

In recognition of the significance of the girls win, Oak Flats Community Bank, who has a close association with the school, made a donation of $1500 for the purchase of a commemorative jacket for each team member.

Ive no doubt that the success of the team will be a high point in each of the girls lives, said John Sinclair, Manager of the Oak Flats Community Bank.

Their victory is a tangible manifestation of all the rhetoric about values and team work.

Deputy Principal, Bob Ashby, who is credited with getting the girls started on their road to becoming State Champions says he is immensely proud of the teams achievement.

They all have an exceptional skill level and I am absolutely excited about their acknowledgement by the Board of the Bank, Mr Ashby said.
