116 competitors turned out for the inaugural Shellharbour Subway Ocean Swim on Saturday April 22nd.?
The event, organised by Shellharbour Surf Life Saving Club, attracted people from as far away as Sydney and Mollymook.
Shane Barrie (13.37) won the open mens, and Brittany Sharky of Kiama took out the Open female in a time of 14.02, over a minute faster than her nearest rival. Barrie, an up and coming ironman from the North Wollongong Club backed up the next day to win at Mollymook.?
Timing of any event is always important and the event has the ongoing support of the Mollymook Surf life Saving Ocean Swim, which was held the following day??
Organiser and winner of the 40-49 male category Tim Coltman (16.14), says organisers are looking forward to next year,?
While we were blessed by the weather, the response was just unbelievable??? We will be looking at the same weekend for next year and hope to attract even more competitors to the area he said??
Local business was also thriving due to the visit; a great reward as without the support the event would not have been possible.??
The support from Shellharbour Village was great with major sponsor, Subway, and minor sponsors Shellharbour News Agency, Superior meats, Harbour Rose, the Scuba centre and Beyond Words Bookshop. Their support of this local event ensures we will be back bigger and better next year?? Coltman added??
Cash prizes were awarded as well as a host of other draws throughout the day, and all participants received Subway vouchers just for entering.
