SHELLHARBOUR CITY WARRIORS BASEBALLCLUB GAME REPORT

Shellharbour City Warriors Baseball Club played their first home games of the season at Howard Fowles Oval last Sunday.

Warriors thirds consists mostly of players new to baseball and are already showing improvement in their 5 runs, 7 hits and 4 errors loss to Dapto Chiefs 17 runs, 18 hits and 8 errors.

Pitcher Dale Chudleigh improved on last weeks effort with more ball speed and keeping a much tighter strike zone with three strikeouts in his 4 innings at the mound. Callum Anderson finished off well with 2 strikeouts in his two- thirds innings pitched.

?Michael St John led the batting with a double and rookies Carol Whittaker, Di Knowles and Peter Benny scored singles. Adam Hooper took a classic catch at centre field.

Warriors seconds with 8 runs, 4 hits and 6 errors did not fare much better against Cardinals 17 runs, 19 hits and 7 errors. Warriors pitcher Terry Williams found the going tough when Cardinals got a flying start with eight runs in the first innings.

Warriors pulled back six in the second innings after Cards had scored another four but couldnt keep the pressure on in the batting box with only four Warriors batters registering safe hits throughout the game.

Mark Douglas had busy time at shortstop with four assists and two fly balls caught as well as batting a single. Fourteen year old rookie Adam Zampa is already showing a cool head in the batters box with a single and a walk in his two at bats.

Illawarra womens representative Amie Teixeira played her usual solid game at first base with five putouts as well as batting a single.

Warriors first grade left their baseball skills at home this week scoring only one run in their first four innings while Pirates steadily built a total of? ten.

Pirates scored two in each of the fifth and sixth innings with Warriors batters waking up too late and replying with eight runs to go down 9 runs, 7 hits and 7 errors to Pirates14 runs, 13 hits and1 error.

Richard Ruth and Paul Miller both got on base with doubles and Chris Guillame contributed with two singles and two RBIs.

Dave Daley pitched consistently with three strikeouts and two walks with Chris Guillame troubling the Pirates, closing out the game with one strikeout in his one inning on the mound.

All three Warriors teams can show improvement on last Sundays results and with the thirds staring to bat the ball and becoming more aggressive with their base running the Warriors coaching staff can expect better results in the next round.

There are no games scheduled over Easter. Warriors firsts and thirds play at Cringila Park on Sunday week with the seconds playing the early game at Hector Harvey.
