THE future of Surf Lifesaving looks to be in good hands following the selection of the South Coast Branch representatives for the Junior Lifesaver of the Year award.
Bianca Greathead, representing Shellharbour Surf Lifsaving Club, and fourteen year old Kiama Downs boy, Lintyn Basha of Warilla/Barrack Point Club have gained the prestigious achievement of being selected to represent the South Coast Branch at the State Finals to be announced at the NSW State Age Junior Surf Lifesaving Championships at Cronulla on February 25.
Bianca is now in her seventh year of Junior Lifesaving at Shellharbour. She has competed at local, branch and country levels, winning numerous ribbons and medals. Bianca takes great pride in recently gaining her Surf Rescue Certificate enabling her to now be an active Patrol member. She plays an active role in club activities, particularly with fundraising, assisting the younger age groups by providing water safety, and priding herself in being a good mentor to new juniors.
Lintyn Basha has been a member of Surf Life Saving since 1999 when he joined the Under 7 age group. Having been a member of Kiama Downs Surf Club for the past 7 years Lintyn transferred his competition rights to the Warilla-Barrack Point club this season to be able to compete in team events.
Lintyn is a third generation Life Saver. I have always loved the fact that this is an activity that my whole family is involved in, including my brother Nathan who has Downs Syndrome. I have gained so much by being involved in the Surf club over the last 7 years. Most importantly, since having received my Surf Rescue Certificate I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in beach patrols.
Lintyn is an active member of surf life saving helping with fund raising, social events, and the younger members of the club and has gained selection in the South Coast Branch Team for the last 3 years.
The South Coast Branch and all the local clubs wish Bianca and Lintyn well in their endeavours in this The Year of The Surf Lifesaver.
