ILLAWARRA Yacht club has announced that it is again running its popular Youth Sail Training Program on the Lake on Sunday mornings.
Jim Jones, of the Illawarra Yacht Club says that sailing is an excellent activity for all ages, and in particular for children.
You are outdoors and active, and it helps develop a range of skills like teamwork, balance, and understanding the elements like the wind, waves and currents, Jim said.
Sailors need to use a variety of skills, often all at once, and it is fantastic to see the smile on a childs face as they explore, discover and learn those skills.
Sailing can also be extremely competitive or extremely social you can go all the way to the Olympics, or just a simple, relaxing cruise.
A small group of volunteers run the Sunday morning sail training with the support of the favcilities at the lakeside club.
Qualified sail training instructors are available to encourage and help children aged between 8 and 16.
Training is held from 10am to 12pm each Sunday and runs from January 28 through to Easter. For more information, or to book your youngster in, contact Neil on 0418 279 465.
