Wollongong councillors are expected to be briefed in March on the much-anticipated Port Kembla Main Street Revitalisation Strategy.

The principal objective for the project is to develop a vision of the desired future character for Wentworth Street.

Wollongong City Planning strategic project manager Ben Muller said the revitalisation strategy was progressing very well.

“Following the community consultation that was undertaken in November, the options for the future character and development scenarios are now being prepared by the project consultants, GHD,” Mr Muller said.

“Once GHD has briefed councillors about progress of the project, the future options and analysis will be publicly displayed for further comment.”

This is anticipated for mid-year.

The revitalisation strategy will consolidate the role and function of Port Kembla’s commercial centre in Wentworth Street, improve pedestrian amenity and find innovative ways to promote development in the area.
