PORT Kembla AFL Club tuned up for the upcoming South Coast season with a trial match against Northern Districts at Kully Bay Oval on Saturday.
The Port side flexed their muscles with a 98-point win, (16-22-118) to (3-2-20).
After a disappointing performance by Port Kembla in the SCAFL Round Robin the previous weekend, there was a complete turnaround and performance from all players.
Even though both sides were missing quality players, the coaches were satisfied with their performance.
All players done what they were asked to do; with special mention to Brad Martin, who had his first game playing in the forwards and kicked four goals.
The Nagy brothers, Matt and Ben played limited minutes but were outstanding on the field. The middle consisting of Dave Maloney, Michael Bright, Daniel Elliott and Andrew Clayton controlled the centre, while the backs were impregnable; the forwards led all game giving Northern Districts a merry chase.
Player of the day was Matt Nagy in his first game senior football, just ahead of a host of players.
The trial game gave both clubs an indication of what the season will hold with the addition of their senior players that were unavailable on the day.
Port's season begins on April 14 with a home game against Kiama.
The club would like to thank a few of our sponsors The Berkeley Hotel and Lorraine Gill Accounting.
