Do you think the Illawarra needs residential development at both Calderwood and West Dapto?

Pessimism needs a holiday too

Pessimism needs a holiday too

MY WIFE and I have been regular swimmers at the Oak Flats heated pool since before the introduction of the ill-received fees.

The entire time, we have found the staff at the pool to be both courteous and dedicated. Their friendly “hello” and a wave, go a long way to making you feel welcome. It’s a very nice start to the day. I hold them in high regard as they are there day after day looking after our wellbeing.

I personally would like to look past all the pesimistic letters which bombard us on a weekly basis. Each letter contributing that ever small amount to the loss of our community spirit.

In this technological age it is easy to hop on the internet and find stories about those with so little freedom and those so much less fortunate than us. We have a beautiful coastline, and so many numerous attractions surrounding us, but more importantly we have the freedom of choice and the freedom of travel to be able to decide how and where we would like to go today.

You don’t have to believe in God to be able to cherish the holiday season and value a family get-together, sit back and think how lucky we are to be able to enjoy such simple pleasures like the company of friends and family, over a barbecue.

I would like to give our warmest wishes to the pool attendants at Oak Flats Pool, and extend this to all the staff at council.

From the guys maintaining our parks and public spaces, to the phone and counter staff who give even our smallest inquiries a friendly voice or smile.

My wish is that the year ahead brings a lot more harmony to the community.

For those of you thinking of responding to this letter negatively, just remember one thing - pessimism needs a holiday too.

This is a very well written, well-versed, and happy letter. Thank you Massimo for your generous, positive, and good thoughts. It would be great to see more people with this type of gratitude and spirit in our community.
