Outstanding

FEDERAL Member for Throsby, Jennie George MP was on hand at the ribbonwood Centre, Dapto last week to present a number of Commonwealth Sport Achievement Awards to 24 outstanding local people involved in sport in the Illawarra region.

The Commonwealth Sport Achievement Awards recognise those in the community who have excelled in the areas of :

Indvidual or Team achievement, such as selection in a national or state team, competition success at a regional, state or national level or for a single performance such as setting a State or Australian record

Contributions to sport by individuals through coaching, refereeing or administrating for a minimum of 5 years, and

Contributions to school sports, community groups or media organisations for a particular event, facility or for continuous support over a minimum two year period.

Ms George said that she hoped the awards would encourage more local people to participate in sport.

Id just like to remind everyone of the healthy lifestyle and social interaction that participating in sporting activities can bring, Ms George said.

I would like to congratulate all the winners of these awards.

The 24 awards recognised people participating in such local sporting activities as baseball, rugby league, football, tennis, athletics, softball, indoor soccer, gymnastics, surf life saving, taekwondo, bmx, swimming, sailing, basketball, hockey and cross country.

The winners were, Peter Blaine, Luke Boersma, Joshua Bray, Trudy Burke, Justine clemente, Kaleb Collins, Zoe Elkerton, Julia Fellows, Megan Field, Caitlin Foord, Melissa Hampton, Chad Harlow, Kylie Jackson, Tyler James, Teagan Lindsay, Megan Logan, Tegan Richards, Phoebe roman, Martin Sharp, Matthew Sneddon, Emma Taylor, Phoebe Thomas. Stephanie Thompson and the Illawarra Junior Baseball League U16 team.
