Our Katie represents Australia
Albion Park’s Katie Richardson was named Miss World Australia at the national finals last week.
The 20-year-old wowed judges at Sydney’s Star City Casino to take home the title.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” Ms Richardson told the Lake Times the day after her win. “It’s very overwhelming. I think I tuned out when they were about to announce the winner. I was so nervous!”
After her win, Ms Richardson spent last Thursday at media appearances and functions, including two television appearances and five radio interviews.
However, despite her newfound fame, Ms Richardson hasn’t forgotten her roots.
She spent her first weekend after her win fundraising in Shellharbour for Ronald McDonald House, a charity she has supported since the start of her Miss World campaign.
As one of her first duties, Ms Richardson will head to Tokyo to promote the Olympic Torch Relay.
She will travel to the Ukraine in September to contest the international final of the Miss World competition.
