Two new recruits from Shell-harbour feature in Integral Energy’s first apprentice intake for 2008.
Joshua Garbutt, 17, of Oak Flats and Brent McColl, 24, of Barrack Heights, are among 17 apprentices starting new careers with Integral Energy in the first round of apprentices, to begin their training last week.
They will be trained as system electricians.
Integral Energy’s general manager of human resources Drew Ferguson said the new starters were selected from a highly competitive field of applicants.
“A total of 62 new apprentices were selected this year, consisting of 45 distribution power line apprentices, 15 electricians and two instrument fitters,” he said.
“They’ve been selected from more than 1200 applicants from across NSW and interstate.
The apprentices selected range in age from 17 to 42.
They will receive comprehensive training and practical experience over a four-year apprenticeship.
“In addition to learning their trade, the apprentices will receive extensive training in health and safety,” Mr Ferguson said.
“They will also have opportunities for future development into engineering-based roles.
“We’re very pleased to have Joshua and Brent on board and hope that they will enjoy satisfying careers.”
Additional intakes will take place in February, April and June.
