MATT Brown MP, Member for Kiama has welcomed the recent announcement of a new primary school for up to 525 students to be built at Tullimbar Village.

Mr Brown said the new school was one of six that were announced on May 11 by the Education Minister Carmel Tebbutt as part of the Iemma governments highly successful New Schools Public Private Partnership Project (PPP).

The primary school will be a vital addition to the growing Tullimbar Village area, said Mr Brown.

The new school will be a state-of-the-art facility for the many children expected to live in this area.

Under PPP, Axiom Education No 2 Pty Ltd will build and maintain the school for 30 years.

The school will include 12 classrooms, a library, a school hall, a covered outdoor learning area, a canteen and a special programs room.

The project includes site works such as play areas, a games court, a staff carpark, a bus setdown area, a parent pick-up/drop-off zone and landscaping.

Mr Brown said the Tullimbar Village primary school would be designed with best architectural and educational practices in mind.

The buildings will be orientated to the north to maximise the comfort conditions for both staff and students, as well as making the buildings energy efficient, Mr Brown said.

In keeping with the Smart Community status of Tullimbar Village, Mr Brown said that communication cabling would be provided throughout the school to enable extensive computer networking as well as internet and email access for students and staff.

According to Mr Brown, the construction of the school is expected to be completed? in Term 1 of 2008.

I look forward to the school opening and providing for the new families moving into this area, Mr Brown said.
