GERRINGONG Rugby League Club legend Michael Cronin was awarded Life Membership of the South Coast Group 7 Rugby League at the league’s annual general meeting at the Kiama Showground Pavilion last week.

Aside from a virtual lifetime of service to South Coast Rugby League through the Gerringong Club, Michael also brought great honour to the Group through his exploits with Parramatta, NSW and Australia.

The 2009 annual meeting proved to be one of the most enterprising meetings in history, with some major decisions reached that will have far-reaching effects on the league into the future.

For the first time there will be an Under-17 merged competition with Illawarra next season to be run by the junior league. However it is not meant to be detrimental to the current Under 18s senior league, with clubs required to field Under 18s before they can nominate Under 17s.

This competition has been on the drawing board for several seasons and had the support of the league’s CRL and NRL Coaching and Development staff.

The League also decided that Centenary Field, Albion Park Rail, will become the permanent home of South Coast League grand finals, with the club’s superior facilities and location seen as a major bonus to the league financially.

With Robertson entering the first grade competition there will be 20 rounds, from March 27-28 and the grand final on September 19.
