KIAMA motocross rider Robbie Maddison has a big New Year’s Eve planned.
Maddison will attempt to jump more than 300 feet (91.44m in Australian currency) to set a new motorcycle distance jumping world record.
The insane stunt will take place at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve as part of an international broadcast by ESPN.
“I have ridden dirtbikes for over 20 years – this is what I do,” Maddison said.
“All the successes and injuries over the years have moulded me into a into someone who wants to achieve the biggest feat on a motorcycle – ever.”
Maddison has already achieved tremendous success in the world of freestyle motocross and is the owner of two world records.
On the Crusty Demons of Dirt 10th anniversary tour Maddison jumped 221 feet (67.3608m) to set a 125cc distance record and followed that up by jumping 246 feet (74.99m) to record the longest jump with a trick.
Come New Year’s Eve he will look to become the standard bearer for motorcycle distance jumping.
The longest jump record is held by Ryan Capes but could be under siege when Maddison saddles up on December 31, 2007.
Maddison has built a massive reputation as one of the most talented and threatening riders on the freestyle motocross circuit.
He was one of the original Crusty Demons of Dirt and earlier this year was part of the Red Bull X-Fighters Tour, where he performed in front of fans in cavernous arenas around the world, including arenas in Mexico and Europe.
The 26-year-old is coming off a broken leg but is ready for his third world record attempt.
Among the entries on Maddison’s impressive resume is fifth at the 2006 X-Games, eighth overall on the Red Bull X-Fighters tour and being named Raceline magazine’s 2005 rider of the year.
