TWO Albion Park Little Athletics Club members have left Shellharbour to compete in the national all-schools athletics titles.
Luke Watts, 10 and Rachael Grosby, 11 will be competing in the School Sports Australia carnival in Launceston, which starts on Saturday.
Luke, from Balarang Public School, will compete in the under 10s 100m and 200m sprint.
Rachael, from Albion Park Public School will compete in the under 11s discus and shot put relay.
The duo earned their NSW team berths after the NSW All-Schools athletics championships at Homebush earlier this month.
Luke scored gold in the 100m and silver in the 200m, while Rachael’s credible finish earned her a spot in the team.
Selection in the NSW team caps a big 2007 for both athletes – Luke won gold in the 70m, 100m and 200m at the Little Athletics NSW Championships in March, while Rachael won the under 12s shot put title.
As well as their athletics exploits, the duo are talented multi-sport competitors.
Luke was a member of the Albion Park-Oak Flats under 10s side that won the South Coast Rugby League premiership and is also an accomplished beach sprinter.
Meanwhile, Rachael is a member of Campbelltown’s under 14 representative softball side, has represented South Coast in primary school softball and plays baseball for the Bulli Pirates.
Meanwhile, Albion Park Little Athletics Club is preparing for a trivia night on Saturday, March 22, 2008.
Parents, members and supporters are encouraged to get their thinking caps on and start putting teams together.
