MEMBERS of the Illawarra Surf Lifesaving Youth Advisory Committee are leading the way in and out of the surf.
The committee was recently highly commended for their work at the Australia Day Rookie Rescue Challenge, which recently took out Surf Lifesaving NSW event of the year, and now the group are proud to support Red Nose Day this week, aiming to raise money for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
Amanda Scott of Surf Life Saving Illawarra sees the day as an opportunity for her organisation to lend their support and for the wider community to raise valuable funds and directly support families that are affected by SIDS.
Every month in Australia over two hundred children are stillborn or die suddenly and unexpectedly, and for each death more than sixty people are affected and may require support, said Amanda.
Red Nose Day is an excellent example to others of what the community can achieve, she added.
The young committee continue to break new ground, none more pleased with their progress than Ms Scott herself.
All the members of the Committee are a credit to our organisation, their clubs and themselves.
With the eldest only being of 20 years of age its fantastic to see young people in our community volunteering their time and achieving to such high standards, she added.
Surf Life Saving Illawarra is encouraging everyone in the community to support the day, which in turn will hopefully raise the much-needed funds for SIDS research.
