LAST week saw Councils stretching from Gosford in the north to Kiama in the south gather on the home of Australian Surf Lifesaving, Bondi Beach, for the Annual NSW Council Open Lifeguard Challenge.
In a single race format that consisted on 10-team members who had to share swim, board, foam lite rescue, ski, and running duties Wollongong took a strong lead with the teams youngest member, North Wollongong's Shane Barrie and Bulli's Ben Allen powering ahead of the field in the opening swim leg.
In a mixed teams event Thirroul's Ashley Russell was the lone female of the team.
A presentation and get together of the rival councils completed the days proceedings with the victorious Wollongong team enjoying bragging rights amongst the rival council lifeguards.
