Telstra Country Wide Illawarra Area General Manager, Mr Pat Nolan (L), and the Mayor of Shellharbour City, Cr David Hamilton trying out the new WiFi hotspot at Illawarra Regional Airport
TRAVELLERS, business people and visitors to Illawarra Regional Airport can send emails, chat online while in transit, conduct online banking, surf the net or connect to their corporate server from their laptops, thanks to a partnership between Telstra Country Wide and Shellharbour city council which has seen the airport transformed into a WiFi hotspot. Telstra Country Wide Illawarra Area General Manager, Mr Pat Nolan, and the Mayor of Shellharbour City, Cr David Hamilton, jointly announced the initiative which will enable visitors and business travellers with laptop computers to wirelessly access the internet at broadband speeds, at the Airport last Thursday. According to Pat Nolan, this is the 15th WiFi hotspot to be installed in the Illawarra, but the bulk of the others exist with fast food outlets.
WiFi hotspots have existed in major metropolitan centres
such as the Sydney CBD and and major airports such as Mascot and Tullemarine for some time, but according to Mr Nolan, the airport at Albion Park is one of the very first regional airports in NSW to be transformed into a WiFi hotspot.
Mr Nolan, said the service, called Telstra Wireless Hotspots, was ideal for regional business travellers and professionals people on the move.
"The establishment of a Telstra Wireless Hotspot at the Illawarra Regional Airport satisfies the growing demands of business and government travellers for wireless access while in transit," Mr Nolan said.
