COMMUTERS are set to receive some relief along the Princes Hwy in Albion Park after new traffic signals were activated last week at the intersection of Airport Road and the Princes Hwy.
Last week Matt Brown MP switched on the traffic signals, which form part of a significant upgrade to improve travel conditions and safety in the local area.
Mr Brown said the traffic signals are a key component of the $420,000 improvements to the intersection, at a very busy section of the highway at Albion Park Rail.
The project includes the installation of traffic signals at the T intersection, including new pedestrian facilities, he said.
The new signals are designed to address current traffic congestion, by regulating the flow of traffic.
Work also involved the construction of concrete median islands on the northbound and southbound approaches to the intersection and the removal of the existing U-Turn bay on the eastern side of the highway.
This project is the last in a series of State Government funded works to be implemented along this section of the Princes Highway over the last five years. This has also included the $600,000 traffic signals at the intersection of Princes Highway and Station Street, Albion Park Rail.
Shellharbour City Councillors Helen Gillett and Barry Bird joined Matt Brown to officially launch the new traffic signals.
The project is funded by the State Government under the RTAs Principal Traffic Routes Program.
