SHAUN Timmins, Rod Wishart and Jonathon Britton joined members of the Kiama Knights Rugby League Football Club (KRLFC) last week at Kiama Showground to announce the inaugural "?Knights Nines' tournament.
The tournament to be held on Saturday 3 March at Kiama Showground and adjoining Chittick Oval, will see more than 400 players in 32 teams from throughout NSW, battle it out for a prize pool of $10,000.
According to KRLFC Coach, tony Myers, teams will be made up of 13 players with nine on the field.
"The structure of the Nines aligns much more with with the traditional 13-a-side than the seven-a-side and allows for a hit out for all players within a squad," said Tony.
Sides will be placed into eight pools of four. Winners of each pool will advance to the Cup Stage to compete for a share of $8,000 prize money. Pool runners-up will proceed to a Plate Competition with $1600 in prize money up for grabs.
A number of local teams from Group 6 and 7 will also compete including the Warilla gorillas, Dapto, Gerringong Lions, Thirlmere, Narellan Jets, and the home side, the Kiama Knights.
Timmins, Wishart and Britton will take part in the "?Knights Nines' in a team of Steelers "?Legends' which will also include Brad Mackay, John Simon, Paul McGregor and Craig Smith.
The "?Legends' team will wear pink jerseys to raise awareness of breast cancer.
These jerseys will be auctioned off later in the day, with all proceeds going to the Joanne Mackay Helping Hand Foundation.
