KIAMA Golf Club will host the Hanson Professional Trainee Tournament on Monday.

The 36-hole event has attracted close to 60 entrants from all over New South Wales.

Sydney's and the state's best trainee golf professionals will do battle with each other and the testing Kiama layout.

This event has attracted the sponsorship of various businesses in the Illawarra and sponsors and their clients have the chance t play alongside some of the best emerging talent in the country.

The support of sponsors has raised prizemoney to $6000, making it one of the richest purses outside state and national majors.

"We could be seeing the net big thing of Australian golf," Kiama Golf Club professional Greg Drummond said.

Local trainees taking part include Kiama's own Glenn Davis and Ryan Tierney, Simon Bergner (Wollongong), Matt Carter (The Grange) and Joel Graham (Nowra).

Kiama's second-year trainee Glenn Davis has a State invite to play the Pro-Am circuit when his busy schedule permits.

The tournament will tee off at 7am and finish at 5.30pm, with a presentation scheduled for 6.15pm.
