UNANDERRA based WPR Racing has its eyes firmly focussed on the podium at Round 5 of the 2006 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series at Phillip Island over the weekend of August 19 and 20.
WPR Racings Team IMB/WinTV driver Damien Ice White, winner of both the 2004 and 2005 championships is currently running 6th in this years Championship series, having been dogged by mechanical problems and a drive through penalty which cost him dearly in Round 4 in Darwin.
We qualified 2nd in Darwin, but then the car failed to start for the first race, said Damien.
Then, the drive through penalty in the second race of the day put us to the back of the field.
We think weve sorted the mechanical issues and we know weve got the speeds, so if everything comes together for us on the weekend, we are confident that Team IMB/WinTV will be back on the podium at Phillip Island.
WPR Racings number 2 driver, 25 year old Ashley Cooper of Ulladulla, will also be competing in the Phillip Island event, behind the wheel of his new, St George Illawarra Dragons sponsored Red V/WinTV BF Falcon Ute.
Phillip Island will be my second outing in the new BF Falcon, and coming off a good round in Darwin, we are looking forward to continuing the form for Team RedV/ WinTV, said Ashley.
I recently attended a Dragons NRL game with the car on display and the boys were giving me a bit of a gee-up, so the pressure is definitely on.
Ashley is currently running 9th in the 2006 Championship series.
