MONDAY saw the campaign launch of Greens candidate for the seat of Shellharbour Sonya McKay.
Ms McKay was joined by other members of the Greens party including Sylvia Hale. In an innovative move Ms McKay will post a video on popular website You Tube.
The video "Vote for Tomorrow Today" covers many of the issues Ms McKay is passionate about and plans to address should she be elected including climate change and concern for future generations, environmental protection, promoting workers rights, genuine public participation and better planning regarding Wollongong Airport.
It includes images of areas she says are threatened by over-development including the wetlands at Koona Bay and the Shell Cove Marina site.
Ms Mckay said the video provides a visual means for the Illawarra Greens to show they are working with the community, for the community.
She said she hopes using the internet will help target younger voters.
"Putting it up on You Tube helps us reach a younger demographic," she said.
She refutes claims made by other candidates that the election will be fought out by Independent candidate Alex Darling and Labor candidate Lylea McMahon.
"The Shellharbour electorate is not a two horse race. The video helps to dispel this myth, particularly when the environment and climate change are so high on the community's agenda."
The video will be posted on You Tube later this week. To check it out for yourself go to the Illawarra Greens website at www.illawarragreens.org.au and follow the link.
