ILLAWARRA Football Association matches had to be cancelled on the weekend, forcing the Association and teams to face double-headers in the coming weekends.

Soccer requires proper playing surfaces and teams are to wait until the wet conditions subside.

To play both weekend days puts enormous strain on players, coaches, administrators, referees and officials.

Two games played within 24 hours could produce unexpected results.

Nobody likes double-headers dreading possible injuries and the disruption to family life.

Wherever possible clubs might arrange midweek matches where floodlights are available.

BAMPTON CUP

The wet weather has thrown round two of the Bampton Cup into chaos, with all matches having to be rescheduled to accommodate the rejigged Illawarra Football Association matches.

The draw is Corrimal Rangers v Bellambi, Wollongong United v Tarrawanna, Coniston Lions v University, Cringila Lions v Bulli, Woonona v Kiama, Wests v Picton Rangers.

Port Kembla meets Helensburgh and Albion Park WE to complete the draw.

Both Wollongong Utd (11th) and Port Kembla (fifth) are both desperate for points.
