TAHLIA Morgan Spark, a princess to those who loved her, was farewelled at a packed funeral service at Dapto on Friday.
The 19-year-old Horsley resident died at approximately 2.10pm on New Year’s Day when her red Mini ran off the road at Dapto Rd, Kembla Grange and hit a power pole.
Ms Spark was returning home after celebrating New Year’s Eve in Wollongong and sustained serious head and internal injuries, later dying in St George Hospital.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
She is survived by her mother Heather, father Andrew and their partners Paul and Jennifer, as well as sister Georgia.
This week Tahlia’s mother Heather said her daughter was a princess from the day she was born until the day she died.
Speaking at Friday’s service, Tahlia’s father Andrew recounted that the 1974 Mini was his daughter’s “pride and joy” and was astounded at the number of her old friends who had travelled long distances to the service.
“She was the kid of a cop… she moved around and made friends everywhere and never lost any friends,” he said.
Mr Spark also spoke of the child her parents lovingly dubbed “Kiddo”.
“It’s never crossed my mind that she was a woman, until I read it in the media and then I realised – my little girl was a woman,” he said.
“We have been blessed from the start with Tahlia; she’s always been good, done as she was told – a good kid all the way through. We’ve all been luckier than most getting to know her.”
In closing the ceremony, Reverend Gordon Bradbery reminded the young people in attendance to “look after themselves” and reflected on the tragic loss of “someone so young and beautiful... we’ll miss her.”
