OAK Flats Swimming Club’s Phoebe Roman and Zoe Elkerton are gearing up to compete in the Age Nationals at Brisbane starting on Wednesday.

The Club has also recently scored some great results at State and NSW Country Championships.

Zoe was the standout at the recent NSW Championships at Sydney’s Olympic Park Acquatic Centre.

She won the 13 years’ 400m freestyle, finished second in the 200m and 800m freestyle and fourth in the 100m freestyle.

Club mate Tyler James had a busy program, making the final of the 13 years’ 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly.

Scott Smith made the final of the 14 years’ 400m freestyle and Lara Pecchiari finished sixth in the 14 years 800m freestyle.

Oak Flats also had swimmers compete at the junior state championships, with Cassie Naydovska, Tegan James and Sarah Cook competing well in the 11 years’ events.

Oak Flats sent 17 competitors to the Country titles.

Claire James, Rixon O’Driscoll and Jack Willis competed well in the 10 years’ events.

James Baldacchino, Tegan James, Sarah Cook (eighth in the 100m breaststroke) and Cassie Naydovska competed in the under 11 years events.

Tyler James (ninth in 100m butterfly and backstroke, eighth in 100m freestyle) and Jessica Piana-Algie competed in the 13 years’ events.

Zoe Elkerton won the 14 years 200m IM, finished second in the 200m freestyle and third in the 100m and 400m freestyle events.

Blake James competed in 14 years events and Adrian James and Conor Bradwell in the 15 years events.

Scott Smith finished third in the 15 years 400m freestyle and fourth in the 200m freestyle.

Lara Pecchiara finished tenth in the 200m freestyle and sixth in the 400m freestyle.

Phoebe Roman set a new Country record in the 15 years 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle and finished seventh in the 100m butterfly.

Mitchell Waine just missed a medal in the 17 years 100m breaststroke.

The club has bounced back after the loss of long-time coach Ted McKay, who died earlier this year.

Ted continued to mentor the kids until his health failed him.

Mrs McKay and two coaches who were trained by Ted, Brad Thomas and Samuel James, have taken the coaching reins.
