MEAGAN and Nicole Gaskin were so excited about starting school last Friday, they were packed and ready to go several hours before school even started.
“There were butterflies, but they were so excited and they’ve settled in fine,” the twins’ mother Beatrice said.
The five-year-olds were among the 45 students who had their first day of kindergarten at Lake Illawarra South Public School last week.
They spent their first day reading, using playdough and getting familiar with the school playground.
Lake South resident Beatrice said it made things easier knowing the girls would be in the same class.
“They’re good friends and they asked me this morning if they could be in the same class together and have lunch together,” she said.
“The hardest part is knowing it’s the end of an era. They’re no longer babies and toddlers… but they’ve become a lot more independent and self-sufficient.”
The school’s assistant principal Trudi Gallagher said the day marked an important milestone.
“It’s exciting for me as well, because it’s the beginning of a journey and it’s very rewarding to see such progress over the years… watching them grow up and how much they learn,’’ she said.
