WHILE having less than seven hours sleep in a week would make even the best of us miserable, spare a thought for Lake Heights resident Dave Taylor who ran and walked more than 600km at the same time.
The 56 year-old set an Australian treadmill record after spending seven days on one of the machines at Wests Illawarra Leagues Club in Unanderra.
And his achievement wasn't just for personal glory.
Mr Taylor's efforts have raised more than $12 000 for the Australian Aerial Patrol, a community funded organisation that conducts search and rescue operations and beach patrols.
While the feat is amazing in itself, even more remarkable is Mr Taylor's extensive list of achievements.
He has run from Sydney to Melbourne and back, not once, but six times.
He has also run from Sydney to Brisbane and back and broken the Australian record for running 1000 hours non-stop over 41 days, raising thousands of dollars for Camp Quality.
Mr Taylor previously broke the world seven-day treadmill record when he stopped at 460km in four days, nine hours in 2003.
Last week he was attempting to break the new work record of 717.85km, but tore a quad muscle on his sixth night.
