BRENDAN CRABB

THE action in the Roo Theatre’s latest production may go beyond the tradition- al love triangle but producer Michael Glover insists All Shook Up is a simple story.

“It’s based on a biker who comes to a small country town in southern USA and takes his bike to a mechanic who turns out to be a girl,’’ Glover said.

“From there, a bit of a love triangle – or should I say love octagon – develops with several other characters involved.”

All Shook Up – the musical featuring the songs of The King – opened on Broadway in 2005.

The Roo cast includes Danny Condon as Chad, Bonnie Cord as Lorraine, Emma Spillett as Sandra and is directed by Wendy Glover.

The production features 27 Elvis songs including Heartbreak Hotel, Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog and of course, All Shook Up, performed in a variety of musical styles.

Glover said the musical was energetic, upbeat and wonderfully nostalgic: “The singing is fantastic and there’s lots of ’50s and ’60s-style clothing: biker leathers, denim and the flowing rock ‘n’ roll dresses of the time.’’

The producer said the cast had been rehearsing the more than two dozen dance routines since July.

“There’s also a 10-piece orchestra and they’ve done some amazing things to these Elvis songs,” he said.

Glover also encouraged members of the audience to come to the performances in their favourite Elvis gear, with a prize likely to be awarded to the best.

All Shook Up will be performed at the Roo Theatre, Addison Street, Shellharbour, from October 3 to October 18.
