THE national cheerleading championships were held at Homebush State Sports Centre on September 25 and 26. In the junior hotshots division, Carmel & Cos Stingrays placed 3rd in cheer and 2nd in pom to place an impressive 6th overall in the country!
In the All-stars division, Carmel & Cos Sharks placed 3rd in both cheer and pom categories.
This was extremely impressive considering that the girls who are all juniors competed in the open division against seasoned cheerleaders twice their ages!!
In the open division the Opals cheer squad put on a real show against some fierce competition.
The girls finished 5th in Pom and 6th in the Cheer division. The great attitude of the team resulted in a special Spirit award for great sportsmanship and friendliness amongst the teams.
Backing up their success a week later at the Wetnwild invitational on the Gold Coast, the Sharks came 1st in Cheer and Pom, and first overall!
Not to be outdone, in the open division, the Opals also came 1st in both Cheer and Pom to also get 1st overall. The WAG level 4 and 5 girls also performed well at the comp taking placings on vault and bars!
Meanwhile, across the Tasman, Carmel & Cos Simon Reid competed for Australias Open Level 8 team in the New Zealand National Championships. Simon bagged a silver medal in the teams event and a silver medal on pommel horse!
Congratulations also go to Carmel and Co gymnasts Jasmine Ford and Emma Taylor who recently competed in International Level 6 on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland as part of the National Clubs Competition.
Both girls did extremely well in this elite stream against the top gymnasts from all over the country. Jasmine came 6th on floor and 7th on beam and vault to come 14th overall, while teammate Emma came17th overall.
An impressive effort by both girls in a field of 48 competitors including competitors from the Australian Institute of Sport.
Carmel and Co say they are now taking enrolments for Term 4.
