Brian Weir, General Manager of Shellharbour City Council, is passionate about the city and its future.

Shellharbour City Council has secured the services of General Manager, Mr Brian Weir for a further four years, extending his term to 2010.

Making the announcement following an Extraordinary Meeting of Council on Thursday night, June 15, Shellharbour City Mayor Cr David Hamilton said he was very pleased to confirm Mr Weirs contract.

Finalisation of Mr Weirs contract is good news for both Council and the community, said Cr Hamilton.

He (Mr Weir) heads a very experienced team with a combined corporate knowledge that can only be viewed as an asset.

Council has developed a number of exciting and demanding projects, including the Shell Cove development, the City Centre and the Illawarra Regional Airport and their continued success is due in no small part to his excellent management and fiscal abilities.

Mr. Weir is the regions longest serving General Manager, having been appointed town clerk in January 1985.

Mr Weir said he was very pleased with the renewal and delighted in the confidence shown by Council in him and his team.

The next four years will be both exciting and challenging, Mr Weir said.

There will be a number of defining moment for Shellharbour City in the coming years, culminating in the sesquicentenary of the City in 2009.

Shellharbour was established in June 1859, and the 150 year anniversary will be a historical and major one.

I am pleased that I will be actively involved in these milestones.

Mr Weir says that the renewal of his contract is a reflection of the performance of his staff and management team.

Many of the staff are long standing and valuable members of the team, he said.

They have a passion, as I do, for Shellharbour City, its growth and development.

According to Mr Weir, the coming years, will carry many new challenges, both operational and strategic including the challenge of the baby boomers and that of the ageing population, and the challenge of maintaining and evolving the standard of services provided to meet the needs of a dynamically changing and growing community.

I just couldnt leave now, Mr Weir said.

Theres still so much to do.
