TALENTED poet and author Steven Herrick paid Flinders Public School a visit this week with his own brand of modern poetry.
The performance, From the page to the stage was described as innovative and energetic.
Students were kept entertained with Stevens poetry as they saw their own lives and the lives of their peers mirrored in what he was saying.
His experience and skill as a poet breaks down uncertainties students may feel about poetry and they love it.
Students left with a belief that poetry is an entertaining accessible medium and they all possess the tools for writing and performing poetry, language and voice.
Steven gave the students a brief talk on being a poet before launching into his 45 minute performance.
He has written three books of teenagers poetry, three childrens books and one picture book.
His three verse novels Love, ghosts and nose hair, A place like this and The simple gift were the first poetry books ever to be short listed for the NSW Premiers Literary Awards.
Stevens visit to Flinders Public School was funded by a grant from the Childrens Book Council.
